ESXi server is part VMware vSphere product. After installing and configuring ESXi server you might want to check the connectivity between the physical host and router. You can ping from ESXi server to router or other network components to test if ESXi server is reachable.
Ping from ESXi Server
Lot of people don’t know how to do this. It’s not difficult to ping from ESXi server to test the connectivity. All you have to do is go to the ESXi host console screen. The screen looks like this,
Press F2 and enter user credentials and hit Enter on keyboard. Select Test Management network from the options by using up-down arrow key in the keyboard and hit Enter. You will see screen like this. Here enter the IP address of one or more network components that you want to test.
Here I will enter IP address of my router which is the gateway of this ESXi host and hit Enter.
If the test is successful you will see OK message along the IP address as shown above.
