There are many editions of Windows 10 operating system. Most popular ones are Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro. Windows 10 Home edition are for home users who don’t require enterprise features. Enterprise features like Active Directory domain join, Azure AD join, BitLocker encryption, Remote Desktop, etc. are available in Windows 10 Pro. When you buy new PC or laptop, Windows 10 Home is installed by default if you didn’t pay extra for Windows 10 Pro. This article shows steps to upgrade Windows 10 Home to Pro.
Upgrade Windows 10 Home to Pro
In order to upgrade Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro, you will need either product key or digital license of Windows 10 Pro. I already have product key of Windows 10 Pro. To upgrade using first method by using product key, follow these steps. In addition, make sure your current Windows 10 Home is updated to latest version before you upgrade to avoid any unseen error.
Step 1. Click start menu and click Settings.
Step 2. From the Settings page, click System.
Step 3. From System page click About. Under Windows specifications, click change product key or upgrade your edition of Windows option.
Step 4. Activation page will open as shown above. Current edition is Windows 10 Home and is currently activated digitally. Under Upgrade your edition of Windows option, click Change product key option.
Step 5. Enter product key and click Next.
Step 6. Click Start to start upgrading.
It will take some time and once its completes it will restart your machine without giving you opportunity to restart later. So make sure you don’t have any unsaved documents open.
After the reboot, you can verify the Windows 10 edition now changed to Windows 10 Pro.
Second Method: Using Digital License
You can purchase Windows 10 Home to Pro Upgrade digital license from Microsoft store.
Open Microsoft Store app and search for upgrade to Windows 10 pro. The search result will show you Windows 10 Pro purchase option. Click Buy and make the purchase. Once you purchase the license it will upgrade and reboot your machine.
